Lots of delays... probably it should be out later in the week, maybe Friday.

Battery monitor, Pburn, Network Wizard, Trash

One thing that was missing from the 4.1 boot scripts was code to explicitly load the battery, ac, thermal and fan modules. Kirk provided this code, that was included in 4.00 (in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules2), and I have copied this into /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit in 4.1. Now, running 4.1retro, I get the battery monitor when running on my laptop.

Zigbert's Pburn has been upgraded to version 2.0.3.

Dougal's Network Wizard has been upgraded to version 20080904.

The Trash applet is updated by disciple to version 0.3.2.

2.6.21.7 SCSI kernels

I have compiled the SCSI kernels for 4.1retro. You can find them here:

http://puptrix.org/sources/kernel-2.6.21.7-pup4.1retro/scsi/

There are three kernels, with different groups of SCSI drivers built-in (the rest as modules). Built-in makes it easier to boot from a SCSI drive.
If you want to know more about the history of this, type "SCSI" into the search box at left side of this blog.

Pmount fixed

Thanks to information provided by eprv, I was able to fix a bug in Pmount.

Eprv has a CF card with only a single Linux swap partition, and this caused Pmount to crash. In fact, Pmount will crash for any drive without a usable partition or "superfloppy" filesystem.

I put in a check for this condition, and verified it works by creating a USB drive with only a swap partition.

2.6.21.7 patched source

I have uploaded the patched source for the 2.6.21.7 kernel used in 4.1retro, as well as all the 3rd-party drivers, Ted Dog's puptrix site:
http://puptrix.org/sources/kernel-2.6.21.7-pup4.1retro/

I cannot guarantee that kernel modules compiled for Puppy 3.01 and 4.00 will work with 4.1retro, as there are slight differences in the kernel configuration, as explained in this earlier blog post:
